Mary Larsen leads the Advocate system’s environmental and social responsibility initiatives related to sustainable operations and a diverse and inclusive supply chain. Mary’s extensive experience in healthcare administration includes nearly 25 years of leadership in hospital-based operations and enterprise-wide in supply chain and support operations. Mary was appointed to create and lead Advocate’s sustainability strategy in 2011. Under Mary’s leadership, Advocate was a founder of the Healthier Hospitals Initiative, along with eleven other leading health systems to create a guide for over 1,200 hospitals to sustain a culture of conservation, reduce energy and waste costs, select safer and less-toxic products, and purchase healthier, sustainable foods. Mary’s key accomplishments include earning Advocate and each of its hospitals top honors in environmental excellence for nine consecutive years from Practice Greenhealth, the creation of an employee recognition program celebrating staff for exemplary demonstration of environmental stewardship or personal health and development of a green building and operations certification checklist for major renovations and new construction projects.
