Health care is responsible for nearly 10 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Given what we all know about sustainability – you can’t manage what you don’t measure – our hospitals needed a toolkit to help them do just that. The Practice Greenhealth Greenhouse Gas Reduction Toolkit is built on the GHG Protocol and designed to be a guide for managing GHG emissions. The guide is organized into four sections: why setting a goal is an imperative for hospitals, how to track GHG emissions in health care, how to set a goal and engage leadership, and how to make progress towards that goal.
This session will walk hospitals through the resources of the toolkit, with a detailed focus on how to calculate a baseline and fill in the GHG Inventory Tool. Hear from Cleveland Clinic about how they are tracking this data and making progress towards their goal to be carbon neutral by 2027.
